Life Update: We welcomed Darcy Grace into the world 2 days after her due date at the beginning of November! We are over the moon and have been soaking up all the newborn cuddles. It's been by far the hardest thing I've ever done and I'm definitely still finding my feet in this new normal but she's a little cutie so makes it worth it!

As you can see - Tucker is adjusting just fine to being a big brother 😂

Reasons you shouldn’t scale to £10k+ months without being on top of your finances

1. £10k months mean’s you’ll be hitting/ have already hit the VAT threshold (£85k sales) and if you’re not financially prepared for this the business could end up in big financial trouble with HMRC

2. Everyone fixates on the revenue figure but if you don’t know how much profit you’re making & really understand your costs then you can’t price effectively. If you’re pricing isn’t right then it doesn’t matter how much revenue your making, your profit & take home pay will be suffering!

3. To scale and grow you need to invest in your business. If you don’t have your ducks in a row when it comes to the financials you’ll be going in blind and could end up doing more damage than good

4. The more money you earn the bigger the tax bill is - if you’re not saving for tax at this level you could end up in deep deep water when it comes to tax time

The MD at my previous job had this saying framed in her office and it was always in the background when on zoom calls. It was something she would say often and it was ultimately the phrase I used to fuel the start of my business two years ago.

When I first launched Hummingbird Finance, collaborating with a thriving business like Bluebird Creative & the marvellous Lauren seemed like a lofty dream. Now, not only has this dream materialised, but we're also empowering businesses like Lauren's to flourish and go from strength to strength every single day.

Hummingbird Finance was born out of a desire to help women in business gain a better grasp of their finances, and in turn, feel more in control of the money they are making.

I’m constantly encouraging them to track their business miles throughout the year so we don’t miss any when it comes to claiming them through their tax return.

It all adds up at the end of the day and it can help reduce your tax bill by hundreds of pounds!

You need to be keeping accurate records so I encourage all my clients to utilise apps like Driversnote to help keep track as you go.

Most of my life, I've been hustling and grinding to reach my goals, only to keep them under wraps once accomplished. Why? I've always been scared of appearing like a show-off or lacking modesty.

I've noticed this a lot with my clients too. Once they hit it big, they tend to dodge broadcasting their wins, fearing they might come across as egotistic or flaunting.

I'm all about raising a toast to others' wins and reminding my clients how spectacular they are.

But I also know I need to be just as excited about cheering on my own wins as well.

And let's not forget, when we rave about our achievements, it can light a fire in and inspire other women out there. Even though it might feel a bit awkward, it's definitely something worth doing.

So, I'm going to take this quote to heart and start celebrating my wins, triumphs, and hard work without holding back. And I'd love for you to join me in doing the same.

So let's kick things off - here are some things I've achieved that I'm mega proud of, but usually keep hush-hush!

✨ I worked my a** off to get a 1st class degree in Chemistry from Oxford University
✨ I powered through and aced 14 accountancy exams in one year
✨ At my old job, I was the youngest second on the finance team while also being the third highest in command
✨ I launched Hummingbird Finance and within a year, was able to cover my share of the household bills
